2011 EMPIRE STATE GAMES

Members of the Capital District Pickleballers racked up numerous medals in the 2011 Empire State Senior Games in Cortland. In total the Capital District picked up 39 medals during the three days of play. Dave Denofio, Ray Raphael, and Doug Radz each earned Gold Medals in Mens Singles and Mens Doubles in their age bracket and Stacy Wilson won Gold in Womens Singles and Mixed Doubles and a Silver in Womens Doubles. Karl Bellinger won Gold in Mens Doubles with John Black and another Gold in Mixed Doubles with Cheryl Silverman. Cheryl also picked up a Silver in Womens Doubles with Noreen Leonard. Other top medal winners were Al Cavallaro with a Gold in Mens Doubles and a Silver in Mens Singles, Bert Wilson with a Silver in Mens Doubles, a Bronze in Mens Singles, and a Gold in Mixed Doubles, Tom Helfrich earned a Silver in Mens Doubles, a Gold in Mixed Doubles and a Bronze in Mens Singles. Ray Raphael picked up a Silver in Mixed Doubles with Therese Shady who also won the Gold in Womens Singles and a Bronze in Womens Doubles. Doug Radz got his third medal, a Bronze in Mixed Doubles playing with Lynn Scherich who also earned a Bronze in Womens Doubles and a Silver in Womens Singles. Walt Williams earned two Silver Medals, Jeff Jordan, Jesse Robinson, Mary Ozarowski, Sandy Rohner, and Bill Purdy also won Gold in Doubles play.
